PBEC - About the Professional Board for Emergency Care

The Professional Board for Emergency Care, established under Section 15 of the Health Professions Act (Act 56 of 1974), is the statutory body responsible for regulating emergency care professions in South Africa. Operating under the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), the Board ensures high standards in education, registration, professional conduct, and continuous development for all practitioners in the field. Its mission is to promote quality, equitable, and people-centred emergency care through evidence-based standards, ethical oversight, and stakeholder engagement.
